Early Life of Freddie Rick

Freddie Rick grew up in the small town of. Kentwood, La., a rural community in the northeastern portion of Louisiana, not far from the Mississippi state border. It's right off Interstate 55, with Hwy. 38 and Hwy. 51 running through the middle of town, a few miles south of Greenlaw and just north of Newman Park.

Freddie Rick was raised in a traditional family unit. His mother and father cared for him, made sure he went to school, and took him to church. Freddie's father owned and operated a small business that planned, built and maintained metal buildings. Freddie's mother worked for years at the Walgreens pharmacy. They provided Freddie with a solid base from which to build his life.

Kentwood's top export is its drinking water. The Kentwood Springs Water company is the best-known of the many bottled water companies that call Kentwood home. The water comes from a deep artesian spring that was discovered in the piney woods in 1963. Kentwood Springs Water is owned by Suntori, a Japanese company, and is available for home delivery.

Freddie enjoyed going to school. In fact, at one time he was planning to become a math teacher. He liked the thought process required by math problems and thought it would be enjoyable to spend time in the classroom.

When not in school, Freddie spent a lot of time helping his father in the family business and helping out around the house. He didn't have as much free time as many of the other boys in the community, but enjoyed visiting the swimming pool in the summer when it was possible.

When he had the chance, Freddie would sometimes go riding on his bicycle around Kentwood. He might ride past Skinney's Restaurant or the Chicken Basket. Occasionally he would visit the Camp Moore Confederate Museum, the site of a former induction center and training camp for the Confederacy.

Growing up in a small town provided young Freddie Rick the sort of warmth and love that he would tap into that helped him become the founder of BetterTrades and push it toward becoming the No. 1 stock market education company in the world.
